Why Are We Held Responsible For Adam’s Sin?

<![CDATA[It’s not that we are held responsible for his sin, or that we inherited his sin. It's more that we inherited the nature of sinning. We inherited the weakness that allows humans to sin. This then allowed sin to enter into our lives. This is why we humans are capable of committing all sorts of sins. Yes, we can be good. But at the same time, we can be very bad, just check the news and see what humanity is up to.

So we are not responsible for Adam's sin. But we have the same weakness that he had. Kinda like how Aragorn feared possession of the Ring, because he has the same blood of Isildur that flows through his veins. Hence, he thinks he will fall to the same temptation to keep the Ring, just like his Isildur did. We are in a similar boat, having the same weakness, the same taint of sin that Adam had.

Anyway, this taint of original sin, stops us from being able to reunite with God when we die. To put it simply, it blocks us from being able to go to Heaven. But God, not wanting to simply abandon us like that, makes a plan and sends his Son to save us. Jesus then, through his death, frees us from this taint of sin, allowing us the chance to reunite with God after our death in this world.

This is why the sacrament of Baptism involves the splashing of water on kids, or in other instances, fully submerging an individual in water. It is to wash away this taint of sin, so that we now have a path forward, a chance of gaining eternal life after death.

#Sin #SpiritualReflection #Christianity

div id="post-signature"
hr /
div style="text-align: center"Reply via a href="mailto:phantasmsblog@proton.me" style="color: #ee464c"email/a/div
!--emailsub--
/div]]>

<![CDATA[So I mentioned in my previous post, that with Freedom blocking off internet use at night, I was unable to publish new posts on this blog. Well, I have found a solution to that. Turns out, there is a Website Exceptions list in Freedom. Websites that are on this list, do not get blocked when Freedom is actively blocking the internet. At the moment, I have write.as and read.amazon.com (Kindle Web Reader) on this list. And I mean it's working, as evidenced by this new post that I'm publishing in 3... 2... 1.

Goodnight and see y'all in the next post!

Freedom

div id="post-signature"
hr /
div style="text-align: center"Reply via a href="mailto:phantasmsblog@proton.me" style="color: #ee464c"email/a/div
!--emailsub--
/div]]>

Freedom Is Truly Effective

<![CDATA[I started this blog with the intention of regularly posting at least once a week. Obviously, I haven't been posting for a while now. So what happened?

What happened was I started using Freedom. Around the same time I started this blog, I was already looking for ways to curb my internet addiction. You see, I'm somewhat addicted to the internet. I normally would log on at 10PM, do my blogging, then continue browsing till next thing I know, it's already 1 or 2AM. I wanted to put a stop to that. And that's how I found Freedom.

Freedom is an app that can restrict your browser or app usage on multiple devices. I have it installed on my desktop computer right now. It is set to block all internet use starting at 10PM. And it is so damn effective, that when the clock strikes 10PM, I end up doing something else because I cannot browse the internet. I did not realize it would stop me from blogging on here, but that was an unintentional side effect of trying to curb my internet addiction.

Screenshot of Freedom in action.
!--more--
It's not exactly a bad thing either. Sure, I couldn't post to this blog, but man I had so much time to do something else. I could read. Watch shows. Play videogames. Do some light late night exercises or stretching. Go to bed early. True to its name, it gave me freedom from my late night internet addiction.

Please note that this is not a sponsored post. I am simply sharing what happened. I paid for a 1 year subscription out of my own pocket. Well, accidentally paid that is. There's a 7 day trial, but be wary that it goes pretty quickly. With me not being able to use the internet at night, I totally forgot to cancel the trial and got hit with the annual subscription. But it's fine. I'm willing to part with my money to gain back a couple of hours at night.

#Freedom #InternetAddiction

div id="post-signature"
hr /
div style="text-align: center"Reply via a href="mailto:phantasmsblog@proton.me" style="color: #ee464c"email/a/div
!--emailsub--
/div]]>

<![CDATA[The books Deep Work by Cal Newport and Show Your Work by Austin Kleon are at odds with each other.

Deep Work advocates locking things down and going distraction free to focus on your work. While Show Your Work advocates giving out continual updates on your work and making use of social media to do so.

Cal would say that the time spent promoting your work on social media, is time better spent doing work or improving your skills. It’s basically a distraction. And in his book, he quotes some people who actually benefited from avoiding social media and focusing on deep work.

Austin would say, if you want your work to be discovered, then you need to keep sharing updates on it. Usage of social media is one of the best ways to do that. Actually his book gives out great advice on what to post on social media. No, he advises against posting about your life or documenting your life on social media. Rather, he suggests posting about what you're working on. Show your work, not show your life.!--more--

What confounds me is that both Cal and Austin are successful in their own right, even if they take different approaches to getting their work noticed.

So where does that leave us? Which approach do we follow?

I think that both of them wrote great books, but they seem to be meant for different audiences.

Cal's book seems to be targeted more at knowledge workers and creators who need time to produce great work.

Austin's book on the other hand, seems to be geared more towards entrepreneurs or people who need the most visiblity to sell their products, or to get paid for their talents and services. That’s why you need to show your work.

So I suppose the answer to the question of which approach to follow, depends on what kind of work you do. I'm leaning more toward Cal's approach of deep work.
